Art from a historical perspective…

From the Lascaux Cave Paintings to the Egyptian Pyramids and the Sphinx, humankind has been painting and sculpting since the most ancient of times, expressing themselves in rock art, cave paintings and more.

Thousand year old tattoo art has been discovered in Peru. Carved Maui statues on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) date back centuries. Humankind’s strong creative force has been at play from the beginning.

Leonardo DaVinci could be considered a relative newcomer. And jewelry art seems to have been as popular centuries ago as it is today.

Now fast forward a few hundred years. Creating fairy tale art in the 21st century can have it’s challenges…

…but it’s all worth while in the end.

So what exactly is art?  This is a question each of us must answer for ourselves. One man’s old yard sale junk is another man’s newly discovered treasure. Do artists create to stir our emotions or are their creations inspired by their own passions? We may browse through a museum admiring a Rembrandt or a Monet, or we may watch a sunrise, or look at the expression of a child and share in the living art that surrounds us. Art, a creative force that stirs our soul, is wherever we choose to discover it.
